Why We're Not Building Just Another AI Logo Generator

Most AI logo tools output the same handful of shapes dressed in different colors. We're taking a different approach — and here's what that looks like from the inside.

If you've tried an AI logo generator recently, you probably noticed something. They all look the same. A spark, an orbit, a stylized letter, maybe a brain. The outputs are technically fine — clean lines, decent color choices — but they feel generic in a way that's hard to ignore. The logo could belong to anyone.

That bothered us. And it became the reason Logavio's AI logo generator has taken longer to ship than everything else on the platform.


The Problem With One-Shot Logo Generation

Most AI image generators work by taking a prompt and returning a result in a single step. That's fine for illustrations. But a logo isn't an illustration. It's a decision — about what a brand represents, what it avoids, what it should feel like in ten years.

A one-shot approach collapses all of that into one prompt-and-pray moment. When the result is wrong, you can't tell why it's wrong. You just try again with a slightly different prompt and hope for something better.

We decided early on that this wasn't the model we wanted to build.


A Brief First, Then a Logo

Every logo in our system starts with a design brief — a structured document that captures things most generators never ask about.

Not just "what's your brand name" and "pick a color." But also:

  • What values should the logo embody?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • What visual motifs are allowed to appear?
  • And critically — what should it never look like?

That avoid list is doing more work than it looks like. Our pipeline actively steers away from things like generic AI sparks, orbit-and-dot tech clichés, and brain icons. Not because those are bad designs in isolation — but because when every logo in your category uses the same shorthand, none of them say anything.

The must_not_imply field is similar but operates at a different level. It's not about shapes — it's about what the logo reads as. A logo that looks like a chatbot interface is wrong even if it's visually clean.


A Pipeline, Not a Button

After the brief is defined, the real work begins. The generation process runs through several distinct reasoning stages — each one building on the last.

Here's the top-level flow:

Each stage is a separate LLM call with its own prompt, its own output schema, and its own validation. The output of each stage becomes part of the input for the next.

This is fundamentally different from asking "generate me a logo" in one shot. At each stage, the system is reasoning about a narrower question — and that narrower reasoning produces better answers.


The Part We're Most Serious About: Fail-Stop

The pipeline has a rule: if it's not confident, it stops.

Concept selection is the clearest example. After generating multiple directions, a separate LLM pass evaluates them and picks one. But if it returns needs_regeneration: true — if it doesn't trust any of the options — the pipeline doesn't proceed. It goes back and regenerates the concept directions, then tries selection again.

This might sound like over-engineering for a logo tool. We think of it as the minimum viable respect for the output. A system that produces bad logos quietly is worse than one that raises its hand and says "I'm not sure about this."


The Output Is Real SVG

This is the part we feel most strongly about.

Logavio doesn't generate an image of a logo. It generates a programmatic SVG — a file made of actual paths, shapes, and coordinates. Every element is defined, every color is a design token, every proportion is intentional.

Colors, for example, are never hardcoded inside generation logic. They flow from the palette tokens in the brief:

And after generation, we run validation on the output — checking path complexity, bounding box proportions, command counts — before accepting it as done:

That means you can open the result in Figma or Illustrator and edit it. It will look sharp at 16px and at 16 meters. It will work as a favicon, an app icon, and a billboard — without ever re-exporting from a raster source.

This also means the generation process is more constrained. We can't rely on diffusion model aesthetics to smooth over bad decisions. Every shape has to make sense. That constraint is a feature.


What We're Still Working On

The pipeline works. The fail-stop logic works. The SVG output is real and editable.

What we're still solving: generating a logo that's both technically correct and genuinely good. We have early outputs we're proud of. We also have cases where the system produces something structurally valid but aesthetically off — and we're not willing to ship those.

The goal is a system where if you describe your brand with care, you get back a logo that feels considered. Not random. Not average. Considered.

We're not there yet. But we're closer than we were a month ago.
